Wearable Helmet & Mask Costumes for Halloween

Halloween is the one night a year when walking into a party as Iron Man, Spider-Man or Optimus Prime is completely normal, and the costumes people remember are the ones with a real head. A faceplate that opens on a voice command, a voice changer that makes you sound like Megatron, or a full-head mask with see-through lenses does most of the work before anyone notices what you are wearing below the neck. This guide covers every wearable helmet and mask we carry, what to wear with each one, couple and group ideas, how to get through a whole party in it, and how early to order.

Measure your head before you order. Every piece below lists a head size, and our head size guide shows how to measure with a soft tape.

Shipping is free and tracked, usually 10-22 business days after 1-2 business days to prepare the order, so if you want your costume for Halloween, order early. The details are in our shipping policy.

Iron Man: pick your faceplate

We carry three wearable Iron Man helmets. They share the same fit, weight and power, and the real choice is how the faceplate opens.

  • MK5 [[price:mk5-iron-man-helmet]] – the Mark V faceplate splits into segments that fan outward. Gold, silver or dark finish.
  • MK50 [[price:mk50-iron-man-helmet]] – one solid motorized faceplate lifts up, and the eyes light white.
  • MK17 Heartbreaker [[price:mk17-heartbreaker-iron-man-helmet]] – the jaw drops open, and the visor lights in two modes. Four color schemes, for an Iron Man most people at the party have not seen before.

All three open by button, voice command or remote, fit heads from 55 to 62 cm (21.7-24.4 in), weigh about 1130 g, and run for about 8 hours on 4x AA batteries, with 1x AAA in the remote. For a side-by-side look at the three faceplates, read our MK5 vs MK50 vs MK17 comparison, and for a closer look at the open jaw, our MK17 Heartbreaker review. All three helmets are fan-made collectibles and are not officially licensed by Marvel.

What to wear with it

A fitted red or dark top, dark pants and gloves read as Iron Man once the helmet is on. A light-up chest piece pulls the look together. For photos and a big entrance, add the MK42 right arm [[price:iron-man-arm]]: its armor panels open and close on your arm, and the palm repulsor lights up. Batteries are not included, so pick up 4x AAA for the arm and 1x AAA for its remote before the party.

Spider-Man: the Brand New Day look

Spider-Man: Brand New Day reached theaters on July 31, and the new suit is the Spider-Man look people will recognize this year. The Brand New Day mask [[price:spider-man-brand-new-day-mask]] is built around the film’s redesigned eye shape, with a web pattern on a soft stretch fabric and breathable mesh lenses you see out through.

It has no electronics, no motors and nothing to charge, which makes it the lightest piece in this guide and the easiest to keep on all night. It fits most teens and adults up to about 60 cm (23.6 in). Like our Iron Man helmets, it is fan-made and not officially licensed by Marvel.

What to wear with it

A full printed suit is the complete version. For a simpler costume, a fitted red top with a black or dark blue base layer, gloves and dark sneakers let the mask carry the look. If you wear glasses, plan on contact lenses for the night, since frames do not sit well under a fitted fabric mask.

For the full build, from the suit to the gloves, see our Spider-Man Brand New Day costume guide.

Daredevil: Born Again

The Daredevil: Born Again mask [[price:daredevil-born-again-mask]] is not a half-face costume mask. It is a full-head piece molded with the woven texture of the show’s suit, with sculpted horns, and it covers the whole head and sits on the shoulders. Choose the classic red or the darker black finish. It fits heads up to 62 cm (24.4 in) and is a fan-made collectible.

The eye lenses are tinted red. You see out through them, but tinted lenses make dim rooms and dark streets harder, so it is at its best at an indoor party, and it is worth taking off to walk anywhere dark.

What to wear with it

Dark red or black fitted layers, dark tactical pants, gloves and boots. For a second look to switch into during the night, take the mask off and put on round dark glasses and a jacket: that is Matt Murdock.

Transformers: Autobots and Decepticons

The Transformers helmets are the loudest pieces here. Each one has a motorized battle mask or moving panels, lights and a voice changer that turns your voice into the character’s while you talk.

  • Optimus Prime [[price:optimus-prime-transformers-helmet]] – motorized battle mask, rotating side gear covers, red and blue lights, Energy and Battle modes, and an automatic voice changer. It measures 254 x 329 x 372 mm and ships fully assembled.
  • Bumblebee [[price:transformers-bumblebee-helmet]] – the battle mask transforms across the face, the eyes switch between red and blue, and a voice changer is built in. It fits heads from 57 to 61 cm and runs about 8 hours on 4x AAA batteries.
  • Megatron [[price:megatron-helmet]] – the voice changer moves the mouth as you speak, and panels open electrically. It fits heads up to 60 cm.

All three respond to voice commands, touch panels or a remote. At a loud party, voice commands are the least reliable of the three, so keep the remote in a pocket. For how the three compare in detail, read Optimus vs Bumblebee vs Megatron, and for the villain on his own, our Megatron helmet review.

Optimus Prime wearable helmet, front view, with blue eye lights on a dark background

What to wear with it

The helmet is the costume. A jacket or hoodie in the character’s color is enough: red and blue for Optimus, yellow and black for Bumblebee, gray for Megatron. For Bumblebee, the Bumblebee arm blaster [[price:bumblebee-arm-blaster]] straps to your forearm, deploys in stages and spins its barrel in battle mode. It takes 6x AA batteries, which are not included, and it is recommended for ages 14 and up. Because of their size, the helmets are best for an entrance, a costume contest and photos, with breaks in between, rather than a crowded dance floor.

Couple and group costume ideas

A group costume works best when each person has one standout piece.

Iron Man and Captain America

One helmet and one shield. The 1:1 Captain America shield [[price:1-1-captain-america-shield]] is die-cast aluminum, 61 cm across, with leather straps so you can wear it on your arm. At 5.3 kg it is real metal, so treat it as a piece for photos and entrances, not something to carry all night.

1:1 Captain America shield, front view, with red and silver rings and a silver star on blue

Spider-Man and Daredevil

Two street-level heroes. The Brand New Day mask and the Daredevil mask together make a duo where neither person needs batteries.

Optimus Prime and Bumblebee

Two Autobots with two voice changers. Add Megatron and you have Autobots vs Decepticons for a group of three.

Avengers night

Iron Man, Captain America and Spider-Man, plus Thor with the Mjolnir hammer [[price:mjolnir-thors-hammer]]. It is an officially licensed Marvel piece that fires thunder effects when you swing it, and it doubles as a Bluetooth speaker, so it can bring the music to the party too.

Wearing it all night

The Brand New Day mask has nothing to power and is the easiest to keep on all night. The Iron Man and Bumblebee helmets run for about 8 hours on a set of batteries, and the bigger Transformers helmets are at their best for an entrance, a costume contest and photos. A few habits make a long night easier in any of them.

  • Try it on at home first. Wear it for an hour a few days before the party, so fit problems show up in time. Take breaks somewhere cool on the night.
  • Use a thin beanie if a helmet feels loose. It takes up the gap and absorbs sweat.
  • Turn the eye lights off when you walk. Lit eyes look great in photos, but they make it harder to see out.
  • Lift the faceplate to talk and drink. On the Iron Man helmets that is one button press. Bring a straw for everything else.
  • Carry fresh batteries. Weak batteries can make motors and lights behave as if something is broken, so start the night with a new set and keep a spare set in your pocket.

Safety before trick-or-treating

These are costume and display pieces, not protective gear. They offer no impact protection, and with a closed faceplate or a full-head mask your side vision is narrower than usual.

  • Never drive in one, including the drive to the party, and never ride a bike or motorcycle in one. Our article on wearing a replica helmet on a motorcycle explains why.
  • Open the faceplate or take it off on stairs, in crowds and at every street crossing.
  • If you are walking kids around the neighborhood, you are the one who needs to see the road. Carry the helmet between houses and put it on for the photos at the door.
  • These are sized for teens and adults. None of them is made for young children’s heads.

After October 31

After the party, the Iron Man helmet stand [[price:iron-man-mk50-helmet-stand]] holds the MK5, MK50 and MK17 on a base that lights up blue, and the Transformers helmet stand [[price:transformers-helmet-stand]] holds Optimus Prime, Bumblebee and Megatron. The Megatron helmet also has its own sculpted Megatron stand [[price:megatron-helmet-stand]]. Take the batteries out before you put a helmet on display for the winter.

FAQ

How long does shipping take?

Orders take 1-2 business days to prepare, then free tracked shipping usually takes 10-22 business days. Weekends and holidays do not count, and express shipping is not available right now, so the earlier in the fall you order, the more likely your costume arrives before October 31.

Can I see out when the eyes are lit?

You can see out of every helmet and mask here, but lit eyes and tinted lenses reduce what you see, especially in the dark. Turn the lights off when you walk and switch them on for photos.

Can I wear glasses under a helmet or mask?

Glasses rarely sit well under a fitted fabric mask or a full-head piece. Contact lenses are the easier option for the night.

Shipping and returns. Free tracked shipping on every order, usually 10-22 business days. See our shipping policy for details. 30-day return window, see our refund policy for what qualifies.

Megatron Helmet Review: Voice, Panels and Fit

Put the Megatron helmet on and start talking, and two things happen at once: your voice comes out of the helmet as Megatron’s, and the mouth plates move with your words. That is the headline feature, so this review starts there, then covers the electric panels and lights, the hand-painted finish, what wearing it is like, and how to display it.

The short answer

  • Buy it if you want a Transformers helmet that talks back: a live voice changer, a mouth that moves while you speak, and classic lines on command.
  • Check the fit first. It is listed for heads up to 60 cm (23.6 in), a lower limit than our Iron Man helmets.
  • Expect a one-of-a-kind finish. The battle damage is painted by hand, so no two helmets look exactly alike.

What you are buying

The Megatron helmet is a wearable, life-size helmet of the Decepticon leader, built from ABS, PC, PVC and metal. Motors open panels on the head, lights run through the battle damage and the eyes, and a voice changer sits inside. It measures 400 x 300 x 290 mm, the largest of the three Transformers helmets we carry by published dimensions, and it sells for [[price:megatron-helmet]].

The voice changer and the moving mouth

The voice changer works in real time. Speak inside the helmet and your voice is transformed into Megatron’s as you talk, while the mouth and teeth move along with you. It reacts to whatever you say, so it works for photos and conversations, not just scripted moments.

Close-up of the Megatron helmet face: sharp metal teeth, bronze jaw plates and red eye lights

On top of your own voice, the helmet carries pre-loaded Megatron lines from the films that you can trigger on command. The listing describes voice control in English and Chinese.

Panels, lights and battle mode

Panels on the head and on both sides open and close electrically. Switch to battle mode and the helmet transforms around your head, and the forehead opens to reveal a Decepticon insignia lit from underneath.

Two lighting effects run alongside the mechanics. Arc lights across the helmet flicker at a low frequency with an electrical crackle to suggest fresh battle damage, and the eye lights, which carry a detailed vein pattern, switch between modes on command.

Three ways to control it

  • Voice commands in English or Chinese.
  • Touch sensors on the helmet itself.
  • A 2.4G wireless remote shaped like the Decepticon insignia.

Voice control is the most fun on a quiet shelf. On a loud convention floor, the touch sensors and the remote are the dependable options, so keep the remote in a pocket.

The hand-painted battle damage

Every helmet is painted by hand, with the scratches, scuffs and scars added one at a time. In the product photos the finish reads as weathered olive-gray metal, with rust streaks along the edges of the head fins, darker bronze tones around the jaw, and small red eye lights set deep in the face.

Hand painting has one consequence worth knowing before you order: your helmet will not match the photos exactly. The overall look is the same, but the placement and depth of every scratch varies from one unit to the next. If you want a factory-identical finish, that is the trade-off. If you want a piece that is yours alone, it is the point.

Wearing it

Fit. The listing gives a maximum head circumference of 600 mm (23.6 in) and no minimum. That is below the 62 cm ceiling of our Iron Man helmets and the 61 cm of the Bumblebee helmet, so if your head measures over 60 cm, rule Megatron out first. Our head size guide shows how to measure properly with a soft tape.

Size and weight. At 400 x 300 x 290 mm this is a big helmet, and all that detail sits around your head. The listing does not publish a weight, so do a trial wear at home before you plan a full day in it.

Megatron helmet front view, showing the size of the head fins and jaw

Power. The helmet runs on four dry cell batteries and the remote on one. Battery life is not published, so carry a spare set to long events.

Safety. This is a costume and display piece, not protective equipment. It offers no impact protection, so never wear it on a motorcycle or a bike. Our article on riding in a replica helmet explains why.

Care and handling

A hand-painted finish and a head full of motors need a little care, and the warranty terms are a good guide to what matters.

  • Dust it gently. Use a soft brush or a dry microfiber cloth. The listing gives no cleaning instructions, so keep solvents and household sprays away from the paint.
  • Keep it dry. The warranty does not cover water or liquid damage.
  • Handle it with both hands. The warranty does not cover damage from drops or impacts, and the fins and panels are the parts most exposed.
  • Take the batteries out before storing it for a long time.
  • Store it on a stand rather than resting it on its fins, so no panel carries the weight of the helmet.

What is in the box

According to the listing, the box contains the helmet and the Decepticon remote. A display stand is not included and is sold separately.

Megatron vs Optimus Prime and Bumblebee

All three Transformers helmets we sell move, light up and change your voice. Here is what sets Megatron apart from the Optimus Prime helmet and Bumblebee.

For the full picture on all three, read our Optimus vs Bumblebee vs Megatron comparison.

How to display it

The Megatron helmet stand is built for this helmet and is a sculpture in its own right: a Decepticon torso in weathered olive with rust streaks, chrome pistons on copper springs, steel chains and colored cabling running through the chest. A flat plate on top holds the helmet upright at display height, and its listing states that it is officially licensed by Hasbro and Paramount. It sells for [[price:megatron-helmet-stand]].

Megatron helmet stand sculpted as a Decepticon torso with chrome pistons, springs and chains

If you own more than one Transformers helmet and want matching displays, the Transformers helmet stand holds Megatron as well as Optimus Prime and Bumblebee. It is sculpted as a mechanical torso, molded in ABS over weighted metal on an octagonal base, with no lights. It carries an Autobot insignia on the chest, so it suits a mixed shelf better than a Megatron-only display.

Who it suits

Three kinds of buyer get the most out of it.

  • Collectors building a Transformers shelf who want the villain next to the heroes.
  • Cosplayers who want interaction. A voice changer with a moving mouth turns photos and conversations into part of the costume.
  • Fans who like a piece with character. Hand-painted damage means yours has its own marks.

It is not the right choice if your head measures over 60 cm, or if you need your helmet to match the product photos scratch for scratch.

Verdict

The Megatron helmet is built around one idea: you should not just look like Megatron, you should sound like him, with a mouth that moves while you talk. Add the electric panels, the battle mode reveal and a hand-painted finish that makes every unit different, and it is a helmet designed to be the center of attention. Measure your head against the 60 cm limit, plan for its size, carry spare batteries, and give it a stand that does it justice.

Optimus vs Bumblebee vs Megatron Helmet

Three wearable Transformers helmets, three very different characters, and a big price gap between the cheapest and the most expensive. Here is what actually separates them.

The short version: Optimus Prime has the rotating gear covers and two lighting modes, Bumblebee has the transforming battle mask and the only published head measurement, and Megatron turns your voice into Megatron while the mouth moves as you speak.

Quick comparison

Optimus Prime Bumblebee Megatron
Faction Autobot Autobot Decepticon
Signature move Rotating gear covers Transforming faceplate Moving mouth
Voice changer Yes Yes Yes
Modes Energy and Battle Battle mode Battle damage lighting
Head size Not published. We are confirming it with the supplier 57-61 cm up to 60 cm
Price [[price:optimus-prime-transformers-helmet]] [[price:transformers-bumblebee-helmet]] [[price:megatron-helmet]]

Optimus Prime: the one with the moving parts

The Optimus Prime helmet is the most animated of the three. The battle mask is motorised, the gear covers on both sides rotate with mechanical sound effects, and the LEDs run through the covers, the antennas and the forehead grille rather than sitting only in the eyes.

Optimus Prime helmet with rotating gear covers lit in Battle Mode

It is the only one of the three with two distinct modes: Energy Mode and Battle Mode, each with its own coordinated lighting, motion and audio. It also carries built-in Optimus voice lines alongside the voice changer, so it talks in his voice as well as yours.

Controls run three ways: voice, touch panels on each side, or the 2.4G Autobot insignia remote. Built from ABS, PVC and metal with a weathered finish, 254 x 329 x 372 mm, recommended for ages 14 and up, ships fully assembled.

Buy it if: you want the most movement and light for the money, or you want the character everyone recognises without explanation.

Bumblebee: the one that transforms

The Bumblebee helmet has the trick the other two do not: the battle mask genuinely transforms across the face rather than just lifting or dropping. The eyes light red or blue depending on the mode, and the gear covers rotate with sound the same way Optimus does.

Bumblebee helmet with the battle mask transformed

It is also the only one of the three with a published head measurement, 570 to 610 mm, and it has a fabric lining inside. If you are buying for someone with a larger head, this is the one where you can check before ordering rather than hoping.

It runs about eight hours on 4x AAA batteries with 1x AAA in the remote, and includes a low voltage reminder and touch wake-up so it does not die on you mid-convention.

Buy it if: fit certainty matters, or you want the transforming faceplate specifically. Pair it with the arm cannon if you are building a full costume.

Megatron: the one that changes your voice

The Megatron helmet is the outlier, and the faction is the least of it. Speak inside it and the built-in voice changer turns your voice into Megatron’s while the mouth physically moves along with you. Nothing else in the range does that.

Megatron helmet with battle damage lighting

Panels on the head open electrically, the battle damage lighting comes up with the sound, and classic Decepticon lines play on command. Everything runs by voice, by the touch panels, or by the Decepticon remote.

It is moulded in ABS, PC, PVC and metal with a hand-painted battle damage finish, measures 400 x 300 x 290 mm and fits head circumferences up to 600 mm. It is also the most expensive of the three by a clear margin.

Buy it if: you want to be heard as well as seen, or you just want the villain. The Megatron stand is sculpted as a Decepticon torso and is worth seeing on its own.

Our Megatron helmet review covers the voice changer, the moving mouth and the fit in detail.

Megatron helmet stand sculpted as a Decepticon torso

Which one?

First Transformers helmet: Optimus. Cheapest of the three, most recognisable, and the two lighting modes give you the most to show people.

Building a costume: Bumblebee. It is the only one where you can check the fit against a published measurement, and the arm cannon is designed to go with it.

Want something nobody else has: Megatron. Everyone at a convention has seen an Optimus helmet. Far fewer have heard someone speak in Megatron’s voice with the mouth moving.

Two things to know before ordering

Stands are separate. All three are photographed on display stands, and none of them include one. The Transformers helmet stand fits all three; Megatron also has its own sculpted stand.

These are not motorcycle helmets. They are not certified for impact and are built for conventions, photography and display. We covered why that matters in more detail.

Frequently asked

Can you wear all three? Yes, all three are wearable replicas with interior padding.

Do they all have a voice changer? Yes. Megatron’s is the most distinctive because the mouth moves with it.

How are they controlled? Voice, touch panels on the sides, or the included remote. All three support all three methods.

How long do the batteries last? Around eight hours of continuous use. Batteries swap out, so there is no charging downtime.

Shipping and returns. Free tracked shipping on every order, usually 10-22 business days. See our shipping policy for details. 30-day return window, see our refund policy for what qualifies.
